たねtanè, the seed

Flowing, wave-like movements invite deep relaxation, balance and renewal.

A holistic massage studio in Brussels offering full-body oil treatments centred on flowing touch, inspired by Kahuna Bodywork from Hawaiʻi and enriched with Shiatsu and Aromatherapy.

The practice

Rooted in tradition, guided by intuition

My massage style combines precise touch, rooted in my Japanese heritage, with graceful movements inspired by Hula, a traditional Hawaiian dance. The flowing touch of Kahuna Bodywork at the heart, my practice is complemented by the grounding techniques of Shiatsu and the natural scents of Aromatherapy. What these approaches share is a holistic view of physical and emotional well-being, working with the body's natural flow of energy to support balance and renewal.

    Kahuna Bodywork

An oil-based massage of dynamic, ocean wave-like flowing strokes with the hands and forearms, guided by music and breath. A holistic approach to restoring balance between body, mind and spirit, and a deeper connection with the natural world.

  • Akiko’s thumbs pressing into the inside of a client’s forearm and hand

    Shiatsu

Shiatsu aims at supporting your original body balance by stimulating Tsubo, the energy spots, throughout the body with finger and hand pressure. It originates from traditional Chinese medicine and developed uniquely in Japan.

    Aromatherapy

A nature-based practice using essential oils extracted from plants. By listening to your needs, I select scents that complement the treatment. A blended massage oil enriches the sensory experience, creating a calming and restorative atmosphere.

How it goes

Your session at Tane Studio

Every body carries its own story, and every session is a dialogue. Together, we explore what you need in the moment. Through conversation, the choice of aroma, and attentive touch, I tailor each session to you. A session lasts approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, including one hour of full-body massage (including the head and face) and 20 minutes for consultation, preparation, and integration before and after the massage.

  1. A warm welcome

You are welcomed into a calm and peaceful space. A glass of water is offered to help you settle in and prepare for the session.

  2. We talk and choose the aroma

With relaxing music in the background, we discuss how you are feeling and any areas that may need particular care. Together, we select the essential oil that best suits your mood and blend it into the massage oil.

  3. Settling onto the massage table

I leave you a moment to undress, keeping only your underwear on, and to lie comfortably on the massage table. This allows the movements to flow smoothly across the body. Throughout the session, I ensure your comfort, warmth, and privacy with attentive draping.

  4. Beginning with the breath

I begin by inviting you to take a few deep breaths to help you arrive in the present moment and settle into the experience. The pressure of my hands is adapted according to your preferences.

  5. Let it flow

As the massage unfolds, long, flowing movements invite the body to relax deeply. When the work on the back of the body is complete, I will gently ask you to turn onto your back. If you feel yourself drifting into sleep, simply allow yourself to rest.

  6. A moment to reconnect

At the end of the session, I leave you a few quiet moments to reconnect with yourself. A towel is provided to remove any excess oil. Before you leave, I offer a warm herbal infusion and invite you to share how you experienced the session and how you feel in that moment.

My personal journey

Hello, I am Akiko

I am from Japan, where massage is deeply rooted in tradition and part of everyday life. My journey with healing practices began in my youth. I have been intrigued by the power of massage and I have always enjoyed giving massages to my family and friends and practising them on myself. I have travelled around the world and explored a variety of local healing practices, from Hawaiʻi to Europe.

Life is fascinating. When I was searching for massage training, I found this course dedicated to Kahuna Bodywork just around the corner of my house in Brussels. It is a traditional healing practice from Hawaiʻi which brings three key elements: Hula, the dance, for flowing movement; Lua, the martial art, for strength and focus; and Lomi Lomi, the massage, for healing and nurturing.

Having practised Hula during my youth and been fascinated by the Hawaiian islands, diving into the wisdom of Kahuna Bodywork came naturally to me. It brought me back to what I love about Hula: a deep connection to spirituality and a respect for nature. We dance barefoot in Hula, which allows us to connect with the earth and natural elements are used as instruments and storytelling. Encountering Kahuna Bodywork helped me understand where I come from, where I am, and where I want to be going.

Tanè means seed

I am creating this small studio as a space where you feel invited and nurtured, where transformation can unfold naturally, guided by Aloha, the universal spirit of love.

A seed of Kahuna Bodywork was passed on to me. I hope to nurture it through continued learning and sharing this healing practice with you, while deepening my own connection to nature and finding greater grounding within myself.

Before you come

A few practical notes

Small things that make the session easier and are good to know in advance.

  • The full-body massage includes the head and face, so your skin and hair may get oily. Recommended to wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting a little oily after the massage. There is no shower available in the studio.

  • Recommended to come without makeup and remove any accessories before the session.

  • It is best to avoid alcohol and heavy meals shortly before your massage.

  • Please note that a late arrival will reduce the length of your massage.
